Kindergarten

In Kindergarten, we visit a pumpkin patch and fire station. It’s great!

Bible: We learn Bible stories from both the Old Testament (Genesis thru Esther) and the New Testament (the life of Jesus Christ- His birth, miracles, parables, death, and resurrection).

Phonics: We learn all the names and sounds of the letters in the whole alphabet!

Reading: We learn many words and become great readers!

Writing: We learn to print all the letters of the alphabet. We write our own journal with pictures and can keep it!

Math: We learn all the numbers from 0 to 100. We count by 5’s and 10’s to 100 and by 2’s to 20. We also learn to add and subtract numbers, tell time and identify money.

Science: We learn about many animals in God’s world. We also learn about the seasons, weather, day/night, magnets, colors, eggs, insects, seeds and planting, and the life cycle of butterflies and frogs.

PE: Exposure to the skills of running, hopping, skipping, galloping, leaping, jumping, kicking, striking, catching, throwing. We also learn to play in large groups.

Spanish: (K-2) Students are introduced to the language.  We learn numbers, colors, and other basic vocabulary such as clothes, food, and animals.

Music: We introduce the five parts of music – melody, rhythm, tone color, form and harmony.  We do activities that include singing, movement, playing instruments, telling stories through music, and learning to be good listeners.

Library: In Kindergarten through 3rd grade the students come to the library once a week and may check out up to three books at a time.  A highlight of the year is hearing many of the Monarch Award books read-aloud and getting to vote for their favorite book in late February.
