Spelling: Every week we have a pretest, exercises and final test on 20 words that follow a specific pattern.

Bible: Our units cover the Old Testament from the judges through some prominent kings of Israel and Judah. We also have memory work that corresponds with the stories.

Math: After a review of 3rd grade material, we learn long multiplication, long division, fractions, decimals, standard and metric measurement and geometry. We also place a strong emphasis on fact memorization.

Reading: We cover six themes in our basal reader. Each unit within each theme covers a reading skill, vocabulary and story comprehension. We also study three novels: Sign of the Beaver, Number the Stars, and Old Yeller.

Language: We study 5 parts of speech: nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs. We have a  writing assignment that corresponds with each unit. We also write a special book for Young Authors Day.

Social Studies: We study the United States by region with a combination of geography and history. We also memorize the 50 states’ locations, capitals, and postal abbreviations.

Science: During the first semester we study ecosystems along with animals and plants. In the second half of the year, we switch to physical science and study states of matter, heat, light, sound, electricity, magnetism, and simple machines.
