Read Naturally is a program to develop children into fluent readers. Parent volunteers are valuable to this successful program.  After our study of money, we hold a 2nd Grade Garage Sale to practice our new skills. For our Bio-billboard project each person writes a biography and “becomes” that person as we write and present our findings. Field trips vary each year. Past trips include live theater, art museums, visits to the zoo, Smits’ Farm and Rispens’ Seed Company.

Bible: We celebrate God’s plan for salvation through the New Testament stories.

Reading: Enjoying wonderful stories in many genres, the children work on comprehension, phonics, vocabulary. Growing readers is our goal!

Spelling: Weekly list based in phonics help students become successful spellers.

Handwriting: First semester review manuscript writing. Second semester the exciting world of cursive.

Math: We discover the fantastic realm of numbers- adding, subtracting, comparing numbers, 3-digit numbers. Rocket Math is our vehicle to memorizing math facts- addition, subtraction and multiplication. All children compete only with themselves as this is an individualized program.

Science: Plants, animals, habitats, energy, color and light lead us to see God in the world around us!

Social Studies: We study peanuts to peanut butter (write a book as well), families around the world, our country and people who make/made a difference is the world.
