Technology

Philosophy

Our students must be able to use technology to learn, to grow, and to participate fully in God’s world.  Technology at Lansing Christian School will be used to enhance the education of our students, prepare them to be lifelong learners, and enable them to be effective servants of Christ in contemporary society.  We will take advantage of technology, as another tool that God has given us, to manage His creation, reform society and give Him the glory.

God created man to have dominion over the earth and to be a steward of all God had made.  Man was created with the talents and abilities to produce a variety of tools to assist him in his work on earth.  Already in Genesis, Chapter 4, we read how men were producing tools out of iron and bronze.

Human history displays many examples of mankind building and using tools to respond positively to God’s command to love God and love your neighbor.  Tools have been used to help people produce food, provide shelter, and raise the level of health for the human race.  History is also full of examples of people disregarding God’s Word and using tools to dishonor God and to hurt their neighbor.  Movies, videos, video games, or television entertainment that promotes immorality or sinful or wicked actions, assorted weapons of war, or medical innovations used for the unethical ending of human life are examples of this type of misuse.

As Lansing Christian School educates its children for life in the 21st century, it must remain committed to teaching children that all areas of life, including our use of tools, must be dedicated to honoring God and used in His service.

Man’s development of tools has led to our present electronic age with widespread use of technology.  It is necessary for Lansing Christian School to train students in the use of technology so that they will be well prepared to use this tool to build the Kingdom of God in the next century.  The computer and other tools of modern technology give man many new possibilities and challenges for service, which were unheard of even a few years ago.

Students at Lansing Christian must be taught an awareness of the role and function of technology in education and society as well as a Christian understanding of the responsible use of technology in daily life.  Students will be introduced to some of the ways technology benefits us every day (e.g. data storage, medical technology, engineering, an communications).  Students will become familiar with vocations related to technology and will understand that there are ethical and responsible, as well as unethical and irresponsible, ways to use technology.  They will be taught to clearly identify how Christian integrity and values are to be used in the area of technology.
